Still Austin Whiskey Co.

An Austin whiskey distillery produces 30,000 gallons a month of distiller's spent grain. A standard batch includes 1800 gals of water mixed with 2500 pounds of non-GMO food grade white corn, 700 pounds of food-grade red winter wheat, and 350 pounds of malted barley. Starch has been extracted from these grains but they retain protein & fat. Still Austin is able to divert some material to local farms (as seen in this Instagram video!) but they have more than these farmers need.

2018 Event Sponsors

Thank you to our event sponsors for helping us host the Final Pitch event!

The 2018 event series kicked of with a special Circular Economy Night on Tuesday, November 7th from 6-8pm at Atlassian. The event featured a joint keynote address from Dan Phillips, CEO of The Phoenix Commotion, and Stephen M. Roberts, Global Sustainability Marketing Manager at Dell. What do a husband and wife entrepreneur team building houses in Huntsville, TX, and a Fortune 500 company have in common? A dedication to the circular economy.

Before and after listening to these world-class speakers, attendees had time to network with [Re]Verse Pitch mentors, past participants, and staff. We also provided an overview of the [Re]Verse Pitch Competition and staff was on hand to answer questions.

Circular Economy Night Speakers

Dan Phillips is a designer and builder working in Huntsville, Texas. Dan and his wife Marsha work with unskilled workers to build recycled housing from free, salvaged, and recycled materials. Their company is currently moving toward a commercial market for clients who have a taste for recycling and social entrepreneurship. Associated with the construction industry for over twenty years, he is now concentrating on using one social problem to solve another through their low-income housing initiative: The Phoenix Commotion.

In the spring of 2012 Dan lectured at the 9th International Convention on Architecture in Budapest; in 2014 he was the keynote speaker at the Zero Waste International Association annual conference, hosted by Zero Waste Canada on Vancouver Island; and in 2015 he spoke at the 14th International Architect Encounter in Canova, Italy.

As the Global Sustainability Marketing Manager at Dell, Stephen Roberts drives the promotion of “all things green and good” at Dell. His focus is on the intersection of sustainability and technology, with a special emphasis on the circular economy and net positive efforts.

Before joining Dell in 2011, Stephen spent 13 years with the advertising and public relations firm EnviroMedia here in Austin, where he helped start America Recycles Day, managed parts of the Don’t Mess with Texas campaign, and worked on countless other public health and environmental efforts.

Stephen holds a Master’s Degree in Latin American History, which continues to prove very useful during trivia games.
